A Business That Was Started To Expand A Family

Hi there! Thank you for taking a moment of your time to view our shop. My husband and I have always wanted a family of our own. Although we love our fur kids, we long for a baby. After learning we were unable to conceive a child in 2020, Jim and I decided to pursue the adoption of a newborn at the end of 2021.

Adoption costs are astronomical (anywhere from 25k to 50k or higher) and although we were able to raise some with our savings, GoFundMe page, and church donations, we were still lacking the funds needed should we get matched. We decided to take our love of crafting and open a side business to hopefully raise some more funds for our future family.

Unfortunately, we never were matched with an Ohio birthmom. Due to financial & emotional stress, our interactions with various adoption agencies, and the limited to nonexistent Ohio adoption situations coming through, we decided not to renew our contract again in Dec of 2025. We don't know what our story looks like for expanding our family now. We do know that we really love creating unique gifts and decor though. This business has allowed us to tap into our creative sides and learn new skills. We hope to continue to grow the business as the years go on.

Designs By Scamper is a tribute to our pup Scamper who passed away in 2015 from cancer. That's just a little bit of why we are here. Thanks for stopping by and we hope you see something you like!

Family Is Important

Jim and I care for our family deeply and that includes our fur-babies! You will see that each of our animals (both past & present) have their own dept in our shop.
-Scamper (passed away in 2015) has the entire business. He also handles the misc products collection.
-Summer (passed away in 2023) has the "Summer's Suncatchers" collection. The product we are most known for and our best sellers!
-Ruger (passed away in 2024) has the "Ruger's Rustic Creations" collection. It features laser etched images, wooden & 3D printed decor, as well as keychains, hats, and other pieces of wall or shelf art.
-Finnegan (pictured) has the "Finn's Kitchen" collection. As our resident "Chef" and troublemaker, he keeps us on our toes. You will find potholders, embroidered kitchen towels, hot sauce holders, and more in this dept.
-Ollie (passed away in 2025) loves the overflowing toybox so he has the collection "Ollie's Toybox". This is where you will find brain stimulating games and toys as well as some 3D printed models and super soft plushies. Looking for an articulated model or toy? You will most likely find it here.
-Tucker, being a cat and fascinated with all things sparkly, has the collection "Tucker's Treasures". Right now he has a variety of earrings and necklaces but has decided to discontinue them. He has started to look into the hand turned pens Jim has been making and finds those fascinating!
-Benji is their cousin and he has the collection "Benji's Bandanas & More". You will find various dog bandanas here as well as dog toys, cat toys, and waste bag dispensers that are perfect to take along on your adventures! He even now carries the homemade dog treats from "Finn's Kitchen" that we are licensed to make and sell in the state of Ohio.
